Orthopaedic and joint surgery requires a higher level of expertise than other routine surgeries, as well as a range of specialised equipment. We have surgeons experienced in a range of orthopaedic and joint surgical techniques, including anterior cruciate ligament repair, patella luxation (dislocated kneecap), bone plating and bone pinning.
We have over 25 years experience in orthopaedic surgeries (in particular bone fracture repair), cruciate and patella repair surgeries.
Treatment of such cases requires excellent pain management, and post operative confinement, preferably in a cage, which we have a range of, available for hire during the patient’s convalescence. Our pain management includes direct application or instillation of prolonged local anaesthetic during the surgery to the fracture or damaged joint, thereby numbing the area and ensuring a minimal almost pain-free recovery.
Also intravenous pain relief of MLK-CRI (a triple mix of analgesic and low dose supplementary drugs that potentiate, enhance, the pain relief from very painful procedures as a Constant Rate Infusion CRI in a drip using a specialise IV fluid pump) and extended long acting (24 hour) injections are given before the patient has woken up from surgery. Ongoing anti-inflammatory and pain relief tablets are provided for as long as required thereafter.
Orthopaedic and joint surgeries are difficult and lengthy, and involve expensive materials and implants. As a result, these surgeries are among the highest in cost that we see, often placing owners under financial stress. We strongly advise all pet owners take out pet insurance to greatly or fully cover these potential costs. There are a number of companies that offer comprehensive pet insurance and we will endeavour to place a list of most on our website.
We have detailed information sheets available for you on both cruciate and patella surgeries.
Please don't hesitate to ask about any orthopaedic or joint surgery, or pet insurance. We will be pleased to be of assistance.
