Surgeries Offered at the Findon Vet Surgery

At the Findon Vet Surgery, we have the expertise in a range of surgeries some of which are not widely available in general vet practice.

I have detailed a few of the more common, yet advanced, surgeries we offer and below have listed a more extensive range. Please contact our surgery for more information on any of these surgeries.

Soft tissue surgeries:

  • Perineal urethrostomy (most offen in cats suffering urethral obstruction)
  • Peritoneal hernia repair
    • Internal obturator muscle flap technique (currently recommended primary repair)
    • Semitendinosis muscle flap repair technique (very advanced surgery when above technique has failed - due to recurrent severe constipation and straining )
  • Pyometron surgery - infected/pus filled uterus in undesexed females
  • Caesarian surgery
  • Most abdominal surgeries, including exploratory laparotomy, removal of foreign bodies, tumour removal, splenectomy.
  • Gastric dilatation/volvulus surgery (circumcostal muscular flap technique) for bloat and twisted stomach
  • Plastic surgery
  • Aggressive and radical malignant cancer surgery
  • Ear surgery
    • Pinna resection in squamous cell cancer cases (symetrical amputation of cancerous cat ears)
    • Lateral ear resection (dogs with chronic ear problems, especially when canal closed over)
    • Aural haematoma surgery (blood filled ear flap)
  • Anal gland (anal sac) removal
  • Eye and eyelid surgeries
    • Entropian surgery (rolled in eyelids)
    • Ectropian surgery (loose lower eyelids that hang away from the eyeball)
    • Third eyelid flap surgery, including scarification of nictiting membrane, for corneal ulceration
    • Lateral canthoplasty for dogs with bulging eyes that dry out and ulcerate chronically
    • Eyelid tumour (meibomium gland adenoma) excision
    • Everted nicitating membrane surgery

Orthopaedic surgeries:

Joint surgeries:

  • Anterior cruciate ligament surgery
    • Liga fiba iso-toggle technique (current recommendation for small breeds)
    • Securos x-gen CCR system: BOSS and PROS titanium implants, Orthofiber and crimp technique (current recommendation for medium to large breed dogs).
    • De Angelis or lateral suture technique (very old, performed by most vets, superceded by above recommended techniques). Currently the prefered technique for cats.
    • TTA (Tibial tuberosity advancement) (currently recommended by many vets but due to improved stablisation and far less severe complication rate, the ligafiba and orthofiber techniques prefered)
    • TPLO (tibial plateau levelling osteotomy) recommended for very large breeds with poor angle of their top of their tibia (plateau). Referral necessary for this surgery.
  • Medial patella luxation (dislocated knee cap)
    • Wedge trochleoplasty and lateral transposition of the tibial tuberosity technique.
  • Arthrodesis (joint fusion surgery)
    • Plantar ligament rupture in hock (hind leg, below 'ankle' ), common in Shetland sheep dogs
